Phil too "Cocky"?

Really Phil?  Too cocky in the 80's?  What is this freakin bull***t?  I lived for your antics, bad jokes and passionate exuberance!  You do still remember "FUN" don't you?  And as far as regrets go, the only regrets you should have is for the missed opportunities to express your gift of entertaining.  We are all flawed and fallable.  We all do the wrong thing some times.  All of us wish we could have a "re-do" for some aspect of our lives.  So many more important people (insert fan names here) love and respect your work, which is quite vast actually, compared to the twits who make it their job to destroy those who create art (insert critic names here).  The past is a part of who and what you are, but it does not have to define you absolutely!  You "Must" choose to move forward and embrace who and what you are at your core....an amazingly creative artist who connects with his audience on a very personal level.  Oh, and don't forget about being a kick ass drummer as well"O)  What say the rest of you fans??

Phil has never been cocky.

Phil has never been cocky.  Silly guy for thinking so.  If he ever was or is, we would tell him, with love of course.  Now, here is the truth:  Why is Phil not knighted?  No, seriously.  I've seen british actors knighted for less talent.  They play make believe for a living and get paid for it.  Phil's talent in writing lyrics and music, added with his musical talent with instruments!  When you roll in his way of being himself, someone that people of all ages can relate to him and his work.  THEN to top it all off, you add in his personal HUMBLE opinion about himself and his work!!!  Really, he is humble to the point of almost apprearing surreal.  I am deadly serious about this.  E.J. does not write his music!!! (not dropping specific names here...)  But some people are considered legends.  How is that so when they don't write and produce their own music?  AND people AROUND THE WHOLE WORLD LOVE THE WORK??  So, who would like to see Phil knighted?

Also in agreement here. I

Also in agreement here. I didn't find any of his antics to be over the top or anything like that. Just good fun.

I think he is being overly

I think he is being overly harsh on himself .. yes he was a little over the top and exaggerated but that was the style at the time .. bearing mind for many gigs they did nt even start to have the big screens until the late 80s and 90s.

He was always a superb front man for a band - entertaining, getting the audeince involved and helping to build a concert to the finale ... I do not think there where many better than Phil at his best - both solo and with Genesis

I'm with you, pallie.  I

I'm with you, pallie.  I don't understand Phil's embarrassment at looking back on himself.  Not one bit.  He was a great front man, self-effacing and very funny.  I always enjoyed the old Genesis concerts in the eighties, Phil's shows equally so.
