{Here's my response posted on the Spin Magazine comment board - what a crock of an "interview"}
Kudos, for remaining a class act, Senor.

Phil,
It's all a farce this game of celebrity. That's the biggest and best lesson I took from following your career, sir. From the Flaming youth/Brand X days to your current Motown memories you've always kept it real. When the rest of the world was enamored with Glitz, glam and sham, Selling England was there. When Disco was king so was In the Air. When musicians of class needed a drum fill, you sat down to fit the bill. And with my daughter of 15 in tow, I saw the splendor of another great Genesis show!
Then to see you leave the big stage at the Hollywood bowl for the final time....
You sir, may have MY hat.
Thanks for the memories, enjoy your well earned respite and thanks for taking to the pitch all those years!
Mike

All i have to say is Phil's the man. He's 2nd to Mike Jackson with #1 hits in the 80's. He's paid his dues. He's played in 2 bands for over 30 years and did it better than anyone I know. He doesn't need to explain to me of why he's not writing songs any longer. Only 1 wish and that is I hope he tours this year. But I would understand if he didn't.

After reading the interview of some supposed "Tough Questions for Phil Collins" I can only say that I don't blame Phil for wanting a fade out. To me, as the reader, that interviewer was more annoying than a prank caller! As usual, Phil handled himself with integrity and an added splash of wit where needed, but really... who needs that hassle?!? Phil's success and career stand on their own without tallying numbers and stupid questions. I'm quite sure any fan completely understands why he's done this album of Mowtown covers. It just seems in natural order, as he's stated, "full-circle." Not only has he done them, but he's done them well, with respect and tribute. I see the new album as a gift.. to Mowtown, it's artists, himself, his fans and the world. I can also see where the fun would be in the creativity of creating instead of the releasing, promoting and selling. (Oh don't we all wish we could be one of those "pals" he writes songs and makes CD's for???) I understand everyone wanting to see him "one more time" but seriously, has he not given enough?? Be thankful for all he's given and let him live his life anyway he chooses. Be happy he is happy.

I would be very disappointed if Phil never produces new music again! I've always loved his music, whether he was performing existing material or writing and creating new material He's in a class by himself.
That being said, just because he a creative musical genius doesn't mean he has to do anything he doesn't want to! I hope he enjoys the paths he's chosen and time with his family!
